The on-loan Atletico Madrid forward has spoken about how he fared overall at FC Barcelona.

Antoine Griezmann insists his time at Barcelona cannot be seen as a ‘disaster’ as he scored ‘almost 20 goals every season’.

Despite initially turning down a Camp Nou move in 2018, Griezmann couldn’t resist when Barca came knocking on his door for the second time a year later and promptly sealed a €120 million move from Atletico Madrid.

However, the 30-year-old struggled to reach his best form in Catalonia. He couldn’t fit into a system that wasn’t tailored to his strengths, often playing out of position on the left flank. Then, in an unexpected twist, he re-joined Atletico in the summer on an initial loan deal.

What did he say?

“My time at Barca was not a disaster, because I always scored almost 20 goals every season”, Griezmann told Telefoot.

“For me, it is a great pride to have played for Barcelona. I am very happy to have gone to Barca, I had incredible teammates. I learned a lot from the coaches, although sometimes I did not play and sometimes it was difficult.”

Griezmann managed 35 goals and 17 assists in 102 appearances across a two-year stay at Camp Nou, averaging 17.5 goals a season.

The World Cup winner has since supplied five goals and one assist in 15 games across all competitions since returning to Atletico, including two goals in La Liga.
