Gremio president Romildo Bolzan Junio has publicized the club’s intention of acting on their interest in signing Edinson Cavani.

Edinson Cavani’s future has been a subject of intense speculations ever since he quit Paris Saint-Germain in June.

Cavani decided against renewing his contract with the French champions, ending his seven-year association with the club after making 301 appearances, winning 19 trophies, and becoming third-best goalscorer in the club’s history.

Interest have been reported from several top clubs, most recently FC Barcelona, for the veteran striker.

A return to South America is also being mooted for the Uruguayan, with rumors identifying Gremio as his possible next destination.

Gremio president Romildo Bolzan Junio recently confirmed the rumors but was quick to accept that the Brazilian side might not be able to fend off competition from European heavyweights in the race to sign Cavani.

“If he wants to play in Europe, he will have offers that are a thousand times greater than those a South American or Brazilian team can give him,” Junio told Hora do Consular, via Goal.

“Now, if it’s in his head, if it’s his idea or if it’s his desire that is to join a project that is closer to home, closer to his businesses and to Uruguay, I believe that he can sit down with us.

“I expect that he has this feeling and that he can talk to us a little more.”
