Eden Hazard may not have had a great start in his Real Madrid career, but Luis Milla already sees similarities with a club icon.

Hazard reminds Milla of his former Real Madrid teammate Emilio Butragueno, who is regarded as one of the greatest players to don the famous white jersey.

The former striker spent almost his entire career at the Bernabeu in a 14-year spell between 1981 and 1995. He helped the club win 15 trophies, including six La Liga titles and two UEFA Cups. 154 goals in 425 games also came his way, making him the eighth-highest goalscorer in the club’s history.

Butragueno even finished in third-place in the 1986 and 1987 Ballon d’Or polls.

And while Hazard hasn’t exactly set the world alight since his big-money arrival from Chelsea last year, Milla is still reminded of Butragueno.

Questioned on how much the Spaniard would be worth in today’s market, Milla told Tribal football: “Butragueno was a very intelligent footballer, great in the box and in one-on-one situations.

“He was great at making quick decisions, which to me makes him ahead of his time and more like a modern footballer.

“(He) would cost a lot now and would definitely be in the elite of footballer in terms of price. I would say he would be valued like Eden Hazard, if I had to compare. Both of them are great passers of the ball too.”

Milla played for FC Barcelona and Real Madrid during his own career and was last involved in football as head coach of the Indonesian national team back in 2018.
