Jorginho was Chelsea’s No.1 pick for spot kicks before he joined London rivals Arsenal in January.

Kai Havertz has replaced the departed Jorginho as Chelsea’s new penalty-taker, according to manager Graham Potter.

Jorginho left the club for Arsenal in January in an €11.3 million deal. The midfielder spent four-and-a-half-years at Stamford Bridge, making 213 appearances. He scored 29 goals in a Blues jersey, including 27 penalties.

“Kai [Havertz] is our penalty taker in the absence of Jorginho,” Potter said in a press conference on Monday evening.

Havertz has managed six goals and one assist in 32 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea this season.

The Blues are ready for a penalty shoot-out

The Englishman spoke to reporters ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League last-16 second-leg game against Borussia Dortmund in west London.

As Dortmund are only 1-0 ahead on aggregate, the tie may go into a shootout if Chelsea win the return leg by the same margin.

“The players are always practicing penalties,” Potter said of the possibility of the tie going into penalties. “We are prepared for the eventuality and possibility [of a penalty shootout].”
