The 2014 World Cup hero has expressed his admiration for the Catalan giants’ style of play as well as their captain Lionel Messi.

Mario Gotze reveals it is a dream of his to play for FC Barcelona as he talks up his chances of earning a place in the Germany national team.

Gotze has been able to revitalize his career ever since jumping ships from Borussia Dortmund to PSV Eindhoven last summer. He is enjoying a fruitful 2020/21, having made 12 goal contributions through 24 appearances across all competitions

There have been reports that the midfielder is now ready for a level-up and is considering leaving the Eredivisie for stronger competition.

It has also been reported that he has changed his agent in order to push for a transfer away, and the 28-year-old has now essentially added fuel to the rumors.

“To celebrate possession football with this [Barca] team, alongside Lionel Messi, that would be a dream,” Gotze told 11Freunde. “I want to play the Champions League again.”

Gotze, who scored the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final for Germany last saw international action back in 2018, but he is hoping to make it back into Joachim Low’s squad ahead of the European tournament.

“The best German players should come together in the national team, otherwise it will be difficult to survive against the big nations,” he added.

“Jogi’s successor will see it that way too. It is clear that in order to be called up again, I have to perform consistently bring.”
