Radja Nainggolan spent last season on-loan in Sardinia but has impressed Antonio Conte to earn another chance with the Nerazzurri.

Cagliari was Radja Nainggolan’s refuge in the 2019/20 Serie A campaign. The Belgian did not make the cut for Antonio Conte’s plans and was staring at a bleak year ahead. The Sardinians secured him on a yearlong loan deal as Nico Barello moved in the other direction.

Nainggolan impressed in his second spell at the Sardegna Arena. There were rumors circulating in the Italian press that Cagliari wanted him back.

Gli Isolani President, Tommaso Giulini, had admitted that they tried to prise the 32-year-old away from San Siro but have failed in their attempts.

“The meeting with Inter did not go well, he is staying in Milan,” Football Italia quoted Giulini.

“It’s impossible for us to sign him. I really think he’s going to remain there, as Inter want to keep Nainggolan.”

Giulini also dismissed speculation regarding Nahitan Nandez’s future. The midfielder was being linked with a move to Napoli.

“I can deny the stories that Nahitan Nandez could go to Napoli in exchange for Adam Ounas. Nandez is staying with us, we haven’t offered him to anyone.”

After impressing in the first half of the Serie A season, Cagliari’s season went downhill. They finished 14th in their centenary year, far away from the European slots they occupied in the earlier stages.
