The World Cup winner has yet again fallen out of favor at Stamford Bridge which has led him to seriously ponder over his future at the club.
Olivier Giroud’s inconvenience over the lack of adequate game time saw him get very close to walking out the Chelsea exit door last January.
The striker reportedly had a few suitors from Serie A and was even on the verge of joining Inter Milan but, on being provided assurances by manager Frank Lampard, made a U-turn on his initial decision to leave.
Towards the end of the 2019/20 season, the situation changed for the better for him as the Frenchman regained his manager’s trust by netting seven goals in 12 games post lockdown.
However, he yet again seems to be becoming redundant with Lampard aiming to build his team around young players.
The 34-year-old is currently the third choice as the focal point of Chelsea’s attack after 24-year-old Timo Werner and 23-year-old Tammy Abraham.
France boss Didier Deschamps recently fired a warning to Giroud suggesting he needs a change of scenario if he seeks to have a place in the national team for the upcoming European tournament, and the player’s agent suggests he might just do that.
“It is not frankly fair when you look at what Olivier did at the end of the season. But he (Lampard) has the right, it is his choice,” Michael Manuello told FootMercato, voicing his concern over his client falling down in the pecking order at Chelsea.
“So effectively if things continue like this, in December we will find ourselves where we were in December 2019.
“But we have to be honest and, if this continues, we will have to, first and foremost for him, experience other emotions.
“So if a really good Premier League club came along, yes that could be considered. But there is an open mind to go and experience something elsewhere abroad.”
