Olivier Giroud has backed Thiago Silva to bring experience and leadership to Chelsea while backing the Brazilian to cope in the Premier League.

Olivier Giroud sees no reason why Thiago Silva won’t be a success at Chelsea.

The Brazilian’s eight-year stint with PSG came to an end in August after the Champions League final.

Silva missed on the chance to get a fairy-tale ending as the French giants narrowly lost out to the Champions League title.

Regardless, the veteran centre-back left the French capital as a club legend. He won a respectable 23 trophies in his time at the club, inlcuding seven Ligue 1 triumphs.

Silva had lots of suitors for his signature but ultimately went on to sign for Chelsea. The Blues handed him a one-year-contract with a further option to extend for another year.

Given his age at 35, many have questioned whether the ageing defender would be able to cope with the physicality that comes with the Premier League.

Blues teammate Olivier Giroud believes Silva will have no such problems and comes as a boost for Chelsea considering his wealth of experience and leadership abilities.

“He can bring his experience, his background and his leadership. I think the coach took him for that. We have a lot of young players,” Giroud said as per beIN sports.

“He still has his qualities, of course, even if like me he is getting a little older, but I’m sure he will bring us a lot.”

“He is going to discover a new league and I am sure he will adapt very quickly. We have a lot of ambitions this year with the recruitment and I hope we can join the race for the title.”

Silva is expected to bring some coordination o Chelsea’s back-line and some reports even claim he could be named the club’s captain for next season.
