Getafe ended Barca’s three-game winning streak to ensure they will play in La Liga next season.

Getafe held Barcelona to a 0-0 draw in their La Liga game on Sunday. A goalless clash saved Getafe from relegation while ensuring Barca of their runner-up spot in the Spanish top-flight.

An uneventful evening!

Barcelona took control of the possession early on but showed little intensity to break through Getafe’s solid defence.
The first period ended with both sides having a few chances to break the deadlock. Marc-Andre ter Stegen made two saves to prevent the hosts from scoring the opener.

However, Barca’s dominance over the possession didn’t allow Getafe to create almost any goalscoring opportunities in the second half.

Barca themselves pushed to find spaces down both flanks, with Ferran Torres and Memphis Depay making a few attempts to break the deadlock.

However, the Catalans remained too cautious of their opponents’ counter-attacks and settled for a goalless draw.
The result saves Getafe from relegation. Cadiz, Levante, and Alaves are the teams who will start the league’s final matchday as the bottom three.

What’s next for Barcelona?

Barca will finish the 2021-22 campaign second, wrapping up their first season of the post-Messi era.
The Catalans will host Villarreal in their final match of the season next Sunday.
