Die Mannschaft crushed Italy to get their first victory in the UEFA Nations League.
Former Australia goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has picked Germany as his favourites to win the 2022 World Cup.
Hansi Flick’s side defeated Italy 5-2 in their UEFA Nations League clash on Tuesday. A dominant performance at Borussia Park sent a clear message to Germany’s World Cup rivals, with Flick continuing his unbeaten run at the national team.
“I think this World Cup, Germany with Hansi Flick at the helm, are genuine favourites,” Schwarzer told Stats Perform.
“Germany is generally always regarded as one of the teams that could go and do something.
“But they’re, for me, stood right up there with being a genuine favourite of winning this World Cup because they’ve got an amazing manager.
“Someone that’s got the belief and support of all the players and has changed the German national team literally overnight exactly like he did with Bayern Munich when he took over after Nico Kovac had a disastrous period at Bayern the season, and then go on to win everything that’s possibly there to win.
“I’ve got a feeling he’s able to do the same thing with Germany right now.”
Flick stepped down from managing Bayern Munich to take over the Mannschaft last year. He is yet to fully activate Germany’s potential, with his side showing goalscoring struggles before the Italy clash.
However, a brilliant attacking display against the Azzurri showcased Germany’s progress under their new manager. Let’s see if they can continue their brilliant form during the next international break in September.
