Milan CEO Ivan Gazidis is convinced the club made the right choice with Stefano Pioli and also praised the evergreen Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Over the past year, Milan have witnessed a resurgence back to the top of Italian football. Stefano Pioli is the man who has overseen that run at the helm of affairs.

As it stands, the Rossoneri are top of the Serie A standings and looking in good shape to win their first top-flight crown since 2011. A big part of their title charge this term is heavily dependent on a certain Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Despite his age, the big Swede continues to deliver and remains on top of his game.

A tally of 14 league goals means only Cristiano Ronaldo (16) has scored more than Ibrahimovic this term.

Stefano Pioli took charge of Milan following the sacking of Marco Giampaolo. The latter’s final months saw him lead the Rossoneri to one of the worst starts to a season in their history.

Stefano Pioli has managed to turn things around and has received praise from club CEO Ivan Gazidis.

“Stefano arrived at a difficult time,” Gazidis told Sky Sport Italia.

“The impressive thing is that he focused on work, he never complained.”

“He has shown everyone that he has the ability to run such a big club. I’m ‘in love’ with Stefano.”

“A year ago, against Inter, we saw a game plan that gave us a lot of confidence. We lost, but we understood that Stefano was the right choice.”

Ibrahimovic is out of contract with Milan at the end of the season but Gazidis refuses to rule out a renewal for the 39-year-old.

“Absolutely, why not,” he added.

“He is the exception to all the rules, he is unique.”

“He has a history with Milan, this club excites him in a special way.”
