As Napoli goes through a difficult season, Gennaro Gattuso described what the team lacks this year compared to other seasons in the past.

Not having the necessary money to buy in the transfer market is what keeps Napoli from fighting for titles, according to Gattuso. The Italian manager has been struggling to find the ideal sweet spot to become one of Serie A’s title contenders. Having to compete against the likes of Juventus with Ronaldo and Milan with Zlatan, is what keeps Napoli down. Even Inter Milan has a player like Romelu Lukaku, who can secure a number of goals per season.

For Napoli, having Hirving Lozano hasn’t been enough for them to get high on the Serie A table. Another club that has a player who scores many goals is Lazio, with Ciro Immobile. But despite needing a player with these characteristics, Gattuso knows that Napoli doesn’t have the kind of money to buy a player like this. For now, they will have to survive with the players they have.

Gattuso: “We lack the killer instinct”

During a press conference earlier on Monday, Gennaro Gattuso said the following through Marca: “We did things that we should not have done,” Gattuso said after the game. We lack killer instinct, but it is not easy to get it.”It is not something you can buy in the supermarket for 10 euros. Killer instinct is something complex.

“You can’t inject it into players only by naming it. [Against Hellas Verona] we distorted ourselves. We were very vertical and every time we tried to dribble we conceded goals. We have to return to the Champions League positions, but with performances like this it will be very difficult.”

Even though Napoli does have Lozano to score goals, his numbers are still below the average that can count as one of those “killers” Gattuso is referring to. It’s a matter of time to see if Hirving can become that player in the future.
