Gary Neville snubs Ronaldo as he picks Man United player of the season

The Red Devils legend believes CR7 has been the second-best United player this season.

Gary Neville has named David De Gea as his pick for Manchester United player of the season.

The goalkeeper maintained his brilliant form despite United’s struggles, saving the on several occasions. On the other hand, Cristiano Ronaldo might be the only attacking player in the Red Devils’ squad with acceptable stats.

The Portuguese superstar scored 18 league goals in his first season since returning to the club last summer. However, Neville believes De Gea has made a bigger impact at United.

The Sky Sports pundit said: “How many times has David De Gea won it since Sir Alex [Ferguson] left? I’m going to go for De Gea, to be honest with you.

“The only other two I could think of would be Fred and Ronaldo. We’d be in dire straits without Ronaldo’s goals but I think, without De Gea, we’d be dead!

“I could say Ronaldo… Who’s the favourite, is it Ronaldo? I’d go De Gea, Ronaldo, then Fred, in that order.”

United finished sixth in the Premier League after a shambolic campaign that saw the club sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer mid-season. 

Let’s see if Erik ten Hag can get the Red Devils back on track in his first season at the club.
