Ekambi steals the show!

Cameroon started the game by quickly dominating the possession. Despite several goal scoring chances, however, the hosts could not get past Gambia’s backline in the first period.

They started where they had left as soon as the second half started. Only five minutes into the first half, Karl Toko Ekambi converted Collins Fai’s by heading it into the top corner.

It did not take too long for Cameroon to double their lead. Following a brilliant run from the left flank, Martin Hongla provided a precise assist to Ekambi. The Lyon forward then completed his brace by making it 2-0 just before the hour-mark.

Cameroon had several more opportunities to extend their lead after the second goal. However, they were not clinical enough to score their chances, while Gambia remained harmless in their attempts to return to the game.

Gambia’s impressive AFCON campaign came to an end as Cameroon reached the semi-finals. The hosts will face the winner of the tie between Egypt and Morocco in the semi-finals on Thursday.
