The Cottagers eliminated Tottenham to reach the Carabao Cup’s third round.
Fulham defeated Tottenham in the EFL Cup on Monday. The Spurs suffered their first trophy miss of the season after a tense shoot-out.
What happened?
Fulham started the game as the better side as they dominated the game for the first 20 minutes. The Spurs were under heavy pressure when the hosts finally broke the deadlock through Micky van de Ven’s own goal.
Tottenham tried to bounce back but had to wait until the 56th minute to find the equalizer. Richarlison scored his first goal of the new campaign by converting a searching cross from Ivan Perisic.
The goal brought Spurs back into the game, but Ange Postecoglou’s men were not able to complete their comeback. The match was destined to be decided by the penalties as both sides missed serious goal-scoring chances in the final 20 minutes.
Davinson Sanchez’s missed penalty saw Spurs being knocked out of the competition, with the hosts converting all five of their shots.
Man of the Match
Kenny Tete had a wonderful evening on the right-hand side of Fulham’s defence line. He successfully limited Perisic’s movement throughout the game while also making a number of impressive runs behind Spurs’ backline.
