According to a recent report, Manchester City finally opened up about their alleged transfer offer to Lionel Messi for the summer transfer window.

Manchester City is allegedly trying to sign Lionel Messi next summer, at least that’s what the English media is talking about. In recent days, sensationalist tabloid ‘The Sun’ revealed that the Citizens lowered their wage offer for Messi from €70 to €50 million per season over the next five years. Their reasoning behind this was due to Leo’s age and his recent results at FC Barcelona. But the club felt the need to come out and deny everything said on this report.

As per Sky Sports’ report, Man City just told them they haven’t made a single offer or any approach to Messi in recent weeks. Even though they remain as one of the most obvious choices for the Argentine, it’s clear they don’t want to mess up their relationship with FC Barcelona. After all, both clubs are still trying to make other transfer deals in the near future. But all of this information makes us wonder if Leo will leave Barcelona after all.

Money will be a problem for Messi.

Even though his closest contacts keep saying Leo Messi won’t stay or leave due to money issues, the evidence says the exact opposite. As the highest paid footballer in history, his father and representatives won’t accept less as payment. Leo can say all he wants about his contract or wages. But at the end of the day, he will go to the place where he gets paid the most. Given that Manchester City just lowered their offer, Messi and his people will start looking for a new destination.

Also, the project has to be attractive to Leo because he also cares a lot about leaving an even greater legacy than the one he already has. At least winning the Champions League again should be amongst his top priorities. There’s a chance he will agree to get paid less if the project is an absolute winner but please don’t hold your breath on that. Messi is still a footballer after all, they always care deeply about their payday.
