Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham revealed Frank Lampard’s team talk during the halftime which led to a thrilling comeback.
Tammy Abraham disclosed Frank Lampard’s speech during the halftime which inspired Chelsea’s comeback. The Blues drew against West Brom in a bizarre game at the Hawthorns.
Chelsea started the first half with awful defense as the Throstles went 3-0 up inside 27 minutes. Debutant Thiago Silva slipped as Callum Robinson took advantage to score his goal.
Although, the Blues managed to bounce back in the second half. Goals from Mason Mount, Callum Hudson Odoi, and Tammy Abraham helped the visitors secure one point.
Right after the game, Abraham applauded Lampard’s half-time words of wisdom. He believes it helped the team pick up the pace on the field per Goal.
“We all went in and our heads were down and he had to lift us up,” Abraham told Sky Sports after the final whistle.
“He said we didn’t look like a team ready to go out and win and we needed to pick each other up in the second half.
“Thankfully Mason got the goal which meant we could believe. I knew we’d get chances but to come back from 3-0 is never easy. The boys deserve credit, they kept going.”
For everyone’s surprise, Slaven Bilic’s side scored three successive goals in the first half at Stamford Bridge. Indeed, it was an entertaining game!
Abraham admitted that he missed a golden opportunity to score a goal in the first half.
“In the first half, we made it difficult for ourselves. I had a chance I should have put away and one I should be taking at this level,” he said.
“They scored from every shot. The team knew we had to come out in the second half and not drop our heads – and that’s what we did.
“We need to cut out the mistakes as a team so we don’t concede. Chelsea needs to be strong together and keep encouraging one another.”
Chelsea will host Crystal Palace on Saturday in the Premier League with high hopes.
