Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech gave a good account of their abilities in Chelsea’s pre-season friendly against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Chelsea played a 1-1 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion. Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech combined for the Blues fourth-minute strike.

However, in a sad twist of events, Ziyech was taken off the field just before the hour mark. The Moroccan international was in pain after twisting his ankle.

Ziyech’s departure saw Chelsea lost momentum. Brighton’s efforts paid off as they got on the scoreboard in the final minute of regulation time.

After the match, Frank Lampard gave an injury update on Ziyech. The Blues boss shared that Ziyech was substituted as a precaution. The wide midfielder will go through further tests to ascertain what bothered him.

Werner and Ziyech were the only new recruits that lined up for the Stamford Bridge-based outfit. Thiago Silva has yet to join their ranks, while Malaga Sarr and Ben Chilwell lack fitness.

Lampard has a tough task on his hands, probably tougher than what he had on his plate last season. Chelsea have made a significant outlay based on his demands and the manager will have to deliver.

With the season poised to start in a fortnight, claims are already being made that the Chelsea legend will be sacked if the team’s performances are not up to the mark.
