Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has described Mason Mount as an ‘incredible player’ and insists the critics are wrong about the midfielder.

Frank Lampard has jumped in defence of Mason Mount and insists the player is a vital cog in the Chelsea setup.

The 22-year-old scored the Blues’ winner against Fulham at the weekend. It was his second goal in two games following his strike in the 4-0 FA Cup victory over Morecambe.

Despite his performances, not many remain convinced in the midfielder. Some supporters have criticized Lampard in the past for showing favoritism towards the England international. Lampard has history with Mount having also managed him while at Derby.

However, Lampard insists the player is fully deserving of his minutes and believes some of his other Blues players can learn from his attitude.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday night’s trip to Leicester, Lampard said as per the club’s website: “Mason is a good example of someone that’s always fighting.”

“I keep talking about him a lot and I think his work ethic in training is one of those reasons, the way he keeps his standards high every day. I think there are things other players can look at with Mason.”

“I’m not sure how anybody can really criticise him of late. I felt it last year. Last year, Mason was playing regularly for us and I felt some of the critics.”

“He does so much great work for the team off the ball, which I think maybe for the naked eye is not as exciting as an overhead kick or a treble step over.”

“But he does all those basics well, he moves the ball so quickly, he’s a great teammate, he scores goals, he finds assists, he does all those things. He has a really great attitude.”

Lampard was defiant on what critics have so far said about Mount.

He continued: “He has a real great way of not seeming like he’s ever perturbed by what maybe critics say. But the critics are wrong. There’s no doubt about that.”

“Anyone who understands or knows football and watches Mason Mount play understands what an incredible talent he is.”

“He has just turned 22. Imagine when he’s 25, imagine when he’s 27. The critics don’t matter when it comes to Mason.?”
