The Real Madrid star might miss France’s World Cup opener.

Karim Benzema’s fitness problems have prevented him from joining France’s team training ahead of World Cup.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti claimed Benzema had received a green light from the team’s doctors two weeks ago.

However, a new report suggests fitness problems continue to hunt Benzema’s World Cup dreams.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Real Madrid star has resumed individual training with France ahead of the tournament.

Les Blues players completed their first team training in Qatar on Friday. But Benzema wasn’t able to join his teammates.

The new update makes the Ballon d’Or winner a serious doubt for France’s upcoming tournament opener against Australia.

Benzema has played only 30 minutes of football since Real Madrid’s win over Elche on October 19.

Spanish outlets criticized Benzema for not playing for Real Madrid in their last games before the World Cup break. However, it seems their assumption that he was trying to stay fit for the World Cup has been wrong.

Benzema’s absence will be a major blow to France’s hopes of defending the title.

The French federation is yet to give a new update on the star striker. But he will most likely return to action against Denmark if he misses the Australia clash.
