There have been reports over the past week claiming that France Football has told Lionel Messi that he has won a seventh Ballon d’Or.

France Football’s editor-in-chief has branded claims that the outlet has informed Lionel Messi of his Ballon d’Or success as ‘bullsh*t’.

Portuguese television station RTP got the rumor mill running last week by claiming that France Football had told the Paris Saint-Germain forward that Ballon d’Or number seven was in the bag.

After winning the Copa America with Argentina, Messi is naturally a frontrunner for the award. Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski, Chelsea midfielder Jorginho, and Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema are reportedly his main competition.

However, Pascal Ferre insists no victor has been determined yet.

“That’s a lot of bullsh*t we’ve seen in the past 10 days. A big bluff,” the France Football editor told German outlet Bild.

When will the winner be announced?

France Football will announce the winner of the 2021 Ballon d’Or in a ceremony at Paris’ Theatre du Chatelet on November 29.

International coaches, captains, and journalists have voted as part of the judging process for the award.
