Tottenham Hotspur currently hold the top position in the Premier League table. After 13 years without collecting silverware, a former Spurs striker sees the club celebrating in the near future.

The first ten Premier League matches are in, and with the competition’s three-time champion at the wheel, Tottenham’s title hopes are growing. Jose Mourinho has been cautious on the matter, but Jermain Defoe believes that anything can happen this season.

Defoe is currently playing for Rangers FC, but that doesn’t mean he’s forgotten about his former club. On the podcast Mennie Talks, he spoke about the Spurs’ recent form and how realistic their title aspirations are.

“I’m looking at the performances and we have Jose Mourinho. People can say what they want, but we have Mourinho and we are playing the way we are, so anything can happen. I see a trophy coming anyway,” he told the entrepreneur Reece Mennie.

Jermaine Defoe went on to draw a comparison between Mourinho’s work with the Son/Kane duo to Guardiola’s past efforts: “It’s what Guardiola did at Barcelona, he played with the false 9 with Messi, with Henry on the left and Eto’o on the right.”

Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min’s performances have rendered 18 goals and 13 assists for Tottenham this season in all competitions.
