The Super Eagles will have a new winger at their disposal for their upcoming World Cup qualifying tie.

Following Nigeria’s underwhelming run in the Africa Cup of Nations, the Super Eagles are now preparing for their next crucial task of the year.

Austin Eguavoen’s side will battle it out with Ghana in a two-legged tie over a spot in the next summer’s World Cup. Less than two months ahead of the game, the Super Eagles have received a significant squad boost.

According to Associated Press, FIFA has confirmed Ademola Lookman’s request to switch his international allegiance from England to Nigeria. Lookman was born in England, but he is eligible to play for the African nation through his parents.

In case Eguavoen calls him up for the national team, Lookman can provide competition for Taiwo Awoniyi on the left. The 24-year-old can also play as a centre-forward, which makes him an ideal choice for Eguavoen’s system.

The Nigerian is currently on loan at RB Leipzig. However, his parent club, Leicester City, will most likely return Lookman to their squad in the next summer. This season, he has made 14 Bundesliga appearances for Die Rotten Bullen, scoring three goals.

Lookman can make his Nigeria debut against Ghana in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers in March. The Super Eagles will travel to Ghana for the first leg on March 23. They will then host the Black Stars for the second leg six days later.
