The Catalan giants remain active in the transfer market with Oscar admitting that talks are underway.

Former Chelsea midfielder Oscar has claimed that he is in transfer talks with Barcelona.

The 30-year-old Brazilian has played for Chinese side Shanghai SIPG since January 2017, after his €60 million arrival from Chelsea. He is under contract at the club until November 2024.

According to various reports, Oscar earns around €24 million per season in China but would accept a pay cut to join Barcelona.

‘Talks with Barcelona are not over yet’

Even so, Oscar has admitted it won’t be easy for the financially troubled club to sign and register him under La Liga’s Financial Fair Play restrictions.

“From what I’m told, talks with Barcelona are not over yet,” he told TNT Brasil. “The problem is that they’re struggling to register signings, like with Dani Alves. There have to be some departures from Barcelona.”

On how talks began, Oscar said: “Barcelona reached out to my agent [Kia Joorabchian] to know about this possibility. They knew football in China will stop in March. I’m aware I’d maybe need to forego something [financially] to make it happen. Of course, one would let go of something to join such a club.”

The former Brazil international added: “I’ve also got to speak with my club. It may be better at the end of the season.”

Barca have re-signed Dani Alves for free and brought Ferran Torres from Manchester City for €55 million in the January transfer window so far.
