Many pundits and fans alike believe Arsenal need a consistent goalscorer in the team, but who would be up to the task?

Ruud Gullit believes Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez would be an ideal signing for Arsenal.

At this stage of the season, Bukayo Saka is Arsenal’s leading scorer on eight goals in 21 games. Their strikers Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, meanwhile, have scored six and five goals respectively. The pair’s lack of goals has prompted suggestions that a new center-forward is needed.

Various reports have linked Arsenal to Napoli ace Victor Osimhen and Brentford star Ivan Toney. Yet, signing either one of these players may cost at least £60 million, with other clubs interested.

“I think Santiago Gimenez would be a good fit for Arsenal,” Gullit told GamblingZone.

“Feyenoord play similar football [to Arsenal]. He’d be used to that and it’d be easier for him to fit in.”

Why shouldn’t Gimenez go to Chelsea?

This season, Gimenez has set the goal charts alight in the Eredivisie, scoring 18 goals in 15 games. He broke Luis Suarez’s 30-goal record in a calendar year on Thursday by scoring his 31st Eredivisie goal in Feyenoord’s 3-1 win over FC Volendam.

That said, while there is no question over the 22-year-old Mexican’s ability, Gullit thinks Chelsea isn’t the best option for him.

“Chelsea are searching for identity at the moment,” the former Chelsea player and manager explained.

“Gimenez would be arriving into a struggling team. I’d rather go to a team that knows exactly what they have to do.

“Of course, I hope he’s the guy to give Chelsea what they need. I don’t know what Chelsea are at the moment!”

Arsenal will be back in action on Saturday away to Aston Villa in the Premier League.
