A 17-year-old midfielder who is nearing his 18th birthday has entered the final 18 months of his contract at the Allianz Arena.

Hansi Flick is confident that Jamal Musiala will sign a contract extension with Bayern Munich.

Musiala made his Bundesliga debut back in June, becoming the youngest Bayern player to make an appearance in the German top-flight, shortly after making his professional debut.

Three months later, he became the youngest Bundesliga scorer when he came off the bench to score the final goal in Bayern’s 8-0 win over Schalke.

In November, the teenager, who spent eight years in the Chelsea academy from 2011 to 2019, then made his Champions League debut against Red Bull Salzburg before making his first start in the competition the following month.

“Why should he go anywhere else?” Flick told Sport Bild when asked about the young playmaker’s future at Bayern.

“He can develop here, and he has the support and appreciation of the club, the coaching team and the other players.”

Musiala has played for England at under-15, under-16, under-17, and under-21 levels as well as for Germany at under-16s, and is eligible to represent both countries at senior level.

“I spoke to Jamal and told him that he would have to decide it all by himself,” Flick added when asked which country will Musiala choose to represent at senior international level. “He has to take responsibility for his future himself.”
