Former Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher is raring to go after securing a promotion to the club’s first-team coaching staff.
Former Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher joined the team’s first-team coaching staff after spending a short say with the club’s under-16.
The Scotsman spent 20 years as a player with United, making more than 340 appearances for the senior team from 2003-15 after coming through the academy.
Fletcher is well familiar with United boss Ole Solskjaer, having played alongside the Norweigian during his stint at Old Trafford.
Speaking on the appointment, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “Darren has the United DNA running through his veins and he knows exactly what it takes to be a Manchester United player.”
“He is at the start of his coaching career and his experience both on and off the pitch along with his winning mentality, commitment and hard work will be a great addition to the staff.”
Fletcher has also spoken on his appointment and says he can’t wait to get started in the United dugout.
He said in an interview with the club’s website: “I’m delighted to be back and excited to work with the staff: Ole, Kieran [McKenna], Carras [Michael Carrick], Mike Phelan and the rest of the coaches; the players, you know some fantastic players to work with at the beginning of my coaching journey.”
“It’s a fantastic opportunity and I’m just delighted to finally be in today, my first day in a new job today. I spoke to Ole a couple of weeks ago and it’s finally getting things sorted to come in today.”
“It’s been a unique experience. I’ve been a player but now I’m on the side, on the coaching staff, so it’s a little bit different. I’m buzzing and cannot wait to get started.”
