Fiorentina held Inter to a 1-1 draw in their Serie A game on Saturday. The Nerazzurri slipped to third place on the table while Fiorentina clinched a crucial point at San Siro.
Third draw in four games for Inter!
Inter have shown evident signs of a dip in form in recent weeks while still managing to escape defeats. They came into the game on the back of a 1-1 draw against Torino last week, where Alexis Sanchez salvaged a point by scoring a last-minute equalizer.
A relatively similar scenario unfolded on Saturday while Inter managed to display an improved performance. The Nerazzurri implemented heavy pressure on the guests’ backline but found no breakthrough in the first half.
On the other hand, Fiorentina had more than a few chances to score the opener. The Viola managed to break the deadlock only five minutes into the second half.
Following an assist from Nicolas Gonzalez, Lucas Torreira made it 1-0 for the underdogs. Inter went all-in with their attacks after the opener, finding an equalizer only five minutes later.
Ivan Perisic provided an inch-perfect cross for Denzel Dumfries, who headed the ball home from close range soon as he received it.
Inter pushed hard to get the match-winner after coming back into the game. However, Fiorentina’s quick counter-attacks were too dangerous to let them roam freely in their opponents’ half.
The guests even had a big chance to win the game in the extra time, but a phenomenal save from Samir Handanovic prevented them from snatching the winner.
What’s next for Inter and Fiorentina?
Napoli leapfrogged Inter from the second spot when they beat Udinese tonight. The Nerazzurri will face Juventus in their first game after the international break on April 3.
On the other hand, Fiorentina remain in eighth place on the table, four points above the in-form Sassuolo. The Viola will meet Empoli in their next league game.
