The shortlist for the FIFA FIFPro Men’s World XI has been revealed as results will be announced a week from now.

Bayern Munich naturally leads the shortlist with 11 player nominations. Despite their premature exit in the Champions League last season, eight of Real Madrid’s players have also been nominated. As usual, the list is mainly composed of footballers playing in Europe, with the only exception being Sao Paulo’s Dani Alves.

The FIFA award was voted by professional football players in 67 countries. The line-up will consist of one goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders, and three forwards. The remaining spot will be filled by the next outfield player with the highest amount of votes.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, who lead the award’s scoreboard with 13 appearances, have been nominated once again. Ronaldo is the only player to appear on all shortlists since the award was first established in 2005. Portugal’s captain secured one more nomination than Messi.
