Jurgen Klopp has received full support from a fellow manager who was overlooked for The Best FIFA Men’s Coach of the Year.

Jurgen Klopp, Hansi Flick, and Marcelo Bielsa. These are the three finalists for the Men’s Coach of the Year award. Although Bayern Munich’s boss is reportedly in the pole position for the prize, Klopp has received a major boost from a manager with whom he disputed a tournament’s final last year.

We are talking about Jorge Jesus, Benfica’s controversial manager who led Brazilian team Flamengo to the FIFA Club World Cup final in 2019. In a pre-match press conference, the Portuguese manager was asked to comment on FIFA’s award, as some believe a nomination should’ve also been given to Jesus

Jorge Jesus spoke about the claims that he missed his chance after he decided to return to Portugal. “If I had continued, it could have been easier. Although no important competition has ended this year in Brazil. The manager’s decision is made according to titles won internationally so I don’t think it would’ve helped,” Jesus argued.

However, to Benfica’s manager, only one coach deserves the recognition this year. “There’s not a lot to pick from, I’ll come forward right now. The coach that deserves to win is Liverpool’s manager, Klopp. Without a doubt.”

Jorge Jesus’s Flamengo also played against Klopp’s Liverpool at the FIFA Club World Cup of 2019 in Qatar. Flamengo secured their first participation in the tournament after winning the Copa Libertadores, whereas Liverpool was representing Europe after conquering the Champions League. Roberto Firmino decided the match with a single goal scored in extra-time. Therefore, the Reds lifted their first Club World Cup trophy.
