Messi and Mbappe compete again after an unforgettable battle in the World Cup final.

FIFA have confirmed 14 nominees for the Best Men’s Player 2022 award.

Players have been selected based on their performances from the start of the 2021-22 season until the end of the Qatar World Cup.

Lionel Messi is the main candidate to win the award after leading Argentina to their third World Cup campaign last month.

The Paris Saint-Germain star will compete against his teammate, Kylian Mbappe, who won the World Cup’s Golden Boot.

Manchester City have three nominees for the award. World Cup winner Julian Alvarez has made the shortlist alongside Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland.

Real Madrid, who claimed the Champions League and La Liga last season, also boast three nominees. Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema is on the 14-man list, representing Real Madrid with Vinicius Junior and Luka Modric.

Four groups of votes will determine the eventual winner of the prestigious prize. Media representatives, national team coaches, national team captains and fan votes will each have 25% of the overall vote.
