The Spaniard left Manchester City to join the Catalans last winter.
Ferran Torres has admitted the dream of working under Xavi Hernandez has been crucial to his decision to leave Manchester City.
The Spaniard were only 18 months into his Man City spell when he decided to move back to Spain. Since joining the Citizens from Valencia, Torres hadn’t been able to establish himself as a regular starter in Pep Guardiola’s star-studded attacking line.
The Spain international says Xavi’s presence at Barcelona has persuaded him to move to Camp Nou for a new challenge.
“My season was very complicated. First, I had the injury, which was very serious,” Torres said. “Then I signed for Barça, who were going through a very difficult situation.
“I could have stayed at Manchester City winning many titles, but I wanted a new challenge. Signing for Barcelona is an honour in itself, but when Xavi calls you, it’s a no brainer.”
Torres has come under criticism for his goalscoring stats. However, the 22-year-old says he has a different role in Xavi’s lineup.
“As a winger I don’t consider myself a striker, it’s not up to me to score goals,” he added. “I’m capable of scoring, when I can I have to give assists, but I’m proud that it has given the team more work than the goal. I’m ambitious and I don’t want to fail, but I don’t mess with my head at all.”
