The Spaniard was initially expected to remain out of action for about six weeks, but Guardiola insists he could be out for much longer.

Ferran Torres could remain on the sidelines for up to three months, Pep Guardiola informed on Friday.

Torres picked up a foot injury during Spain’s Nations League semi-final win over Italy. The winger, after scoring twice in the first half, limped off in the second period after being on the end of a hefty challenge from Jorginho.

The 21-year-old was then deemed fit enough to feature against France in the Nations League final.

Subsequent scans indicated that the forward would be out of action for around six weeks, with an official statement released by Man City on Thursday confirming the forward had suffered a “small fracture” to his right foot.

However, Guardiola suggests it could be 2022 when Torres returns to full fitness.

“Torres is out for two and a half to three months. It’s a bone in his foot, metatarsal,” the Man City boss told reporters (via Daily Mail).

“The injury can happen here in the national team, I know perfectly the manager for Spain, he treated Ferran as well as possible. If he gets injured, they tried to take care, sometimes it happens. It happened with Phil [Foden] and Kevin [De Bruyne].

“It happens, there are lots of games, he’ll go to Spain for a few weeks. He’ll be ready in three months.”
