The Spaniard has rediscovered his spark at Barcelona this season.
Barcelona forward Ferran Torres has opened up on the privilege of playing alongside Robert Lewandowski.
Torres came under pressure for his poor goalscoring form last season, scoring only four goals in 33 La Liga appearances. Since the start of the 2023-24 campaign, however, the Spaniard has enjoyed an impressive run of form.
Torres has reclaimed his place in Xavi’s lineup despite the tough competition in Barca’s attacking line. In an interview with SPORT, the 23-year-old was asked about his experience of playing with Lewandowski.
“I have attached myself to him a lot because he is a reference,” Torres said of the Polish striker. “I think I can improve a lot at the expense of him, by paying attention to him.
“I am very competitive and I compete with him in training by trying to score more goals than him. Maybe he, unconsciously, is making me a better player.”
Lewandowski has maintained consistency with his goalscoring output this season, registering six goals and four assists in ten matches for the Catalans. The 35-year-old, who has missed Barca’s recent games with an ankle injury, is expected to return to the pitch in early November. Barcelona will have to play without Lewandowski in their upcoming El Clasico clash against Real Madrid on October 28.
