At the age of 35, Fernando Torres hung up his boots a year after leaving Atletico Madrid and is now looking towards life in the dugout.
Fernando Torres is an Atletico Madrid and Liverpool icon. He failed to live up to his billing at Chelsea but was instrumental in their Champions League triumph.
During his illustrious career, he won everything but the Premier League and La Liga. He hung his boots last year after his Sagan Tosu contract came to an end.
Torres has not dwelled on his past accomplishments and is swiftly working towards his coaching badges.
With one year away from the pitch, the legendary striker reflected on his one-year away from the pitch.
Torres was pleased with Liverpool’s Premier League triumph but saddened by the fact that there were no fans to enjoy it in the stands.
“Today is one year since I retired from football,” he wrote on Instagram.
“I confess that when I was active, I did not realise how quickly time goes…
“I’m getting used to a new reality.
“I have assumed that I am no longer a football player, while at the same time I am about to become a coach.
“In addition, we have celebrated that my beloved Liverpool have won a Premier League after 30 years and unfortunately football is played without supporters in the stands – the element that makes this sport so special.
“In the middle of it all, we are experiencing a pandemic that leaves thousands of families broken.
“For this reason, the only thing I ask of you is that you be responsible and stay safe and healthy.
“My best wishes for everybody.”
