Bruno Fernandes is without a doubt a ‘big-game’ player and has proven his critics wrong with a goal against Liverpool, says Ally McCoist.

Bruno Fernandes continues to see his stock rise since he made his debut for Manchester United.

The latest heroics from the Portuguese midfielder comes after his match-winning goal against Liverpool at Old Trafford to knock the Reds out of the FA Cup.

Fernandes has often been accused of ‘ghosting’ in big games but there was to be none of that at Anfield.

With the game headed for a draw, the 26-year-old sent in a brilliant free-kick that beat Alisson at his near post. That goal proved to be the difference and it was all the more impressive considering he came off the bench to win the game.

Fernandes now has an impressive 46 goal contributions since making his debut for the Red Devils. His performances this season has been one of the catalysts that has seen United rise to the top of the Premier League.

talkSPORT pundit Ally McCoist says the midfielder has answered the ‘big-game’ question after his latest outing against Liverpool.

“He’s a top player, absolutely” the Rangers said on talkSPORT Breakfast.

“The impact he’s made since coming to Manchester United has been fantastic, absolutely fantastic, in terms of his goals, in terms of his assists, everything, the impact he’d made has been wonderful.”

‘It’s our job to look for things and, okay, he has a couple of quiet games against the bigger teams and all of a sudden questions are getting asked – that’s what happened.

“Well, he’s answered the questions yesterday again!”
