The former Manchester United frontman is impressed by the impact made by Bruno Fernandes throughout his spell at Old Trafford.
Bruno Fernandes continues to perform like Paul Scholes according to Manchester United’s great Dimitar Berbatov. In addition to this honor, the ex-Red Devils striker believes that the Portuguese will evolve further at Old Trafford. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer found a gem during the last winter transfer, which is the former Sporting midfielder, Fernandes.
It is quite interesting to see how the 26-year-old dissolved himself in the team. With the help of his talismanic presence, United went on to secure third place in the Premier League last season. In addition, Ole’s side also got the green signal for the Champions League spot for the new season.
Fernandes went through ups and downs at the beginning of his spell with the Red Devils. However, it did not take long for the Portuguese playmaker to get things done and keep a good shape. And we all witnessed what everybody was waiting for during United’s clash against Istanbul Basaksehir.
A solid resemblance.
Fernandes grabbed two goals in that European fixture and helped his team go close to the knockout stage. And Berbatov can see a resemblance of a United icon reflecting from this talented midfielder. “The opening goal in the win, that Bruno scored from outside the box, was amazing,” Berbatov told Betfair.
“Let me tell you, that technique is so difficult to do. I was never a big specialist at scoring from outside the box. Fernandes’ strike was Scholes-esque, that was his specialty, you could imagine Paul Scholes scoring that one, when the ball comes across to him, bam and into the top corner. It was perfect execution.”
The Bulgarian added: “Fernandes has impressed me so much and the only weakness I see in him is his defensive side. He can improve a bit there. He’s an attacking midfielder, though, who creates chances, scores goals, and up the pitch is where he has his power. That’s why I think it’s good to have someone on the team to cover for him.
“Other than his defensive weakness, he is doing everything that the manager wants from him, and, with 20 goals since he joined in January, he’s certainly scored more than people expected. He is phenomenal in the passing and scoring department and since he joined the club he is doing everything that he needs to do.”
