Ferguson explains why Ronaldo ‘deserves’ to win the 2021 Ballon d’Or

The legendary former Manchester United manager is adamant Cristiano Ronaldo ‘deserves’ to win the 2021 Ballon d’Or award.

Cristiano Ronaldo deserves the Ballon d’Or as he has ‘broken record after record’, says Sir Alex Ferguson.

Despite turning 36 in February, Ronaldo has been sensational for club and country again. The forward won the Serie A and Euro 2020 Golden Boot awards during another goal-laden campaign.

He also lifted the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana trophies with Juventus last season before embarking on an impressive return to Manchester United.

Some say Juventus and Portugal’s failed title defenses in Serie A and Euro 2020 will go against Ronaldo, although Ferguson insists his record-breaking exploits make him a worthy winner.

“Cristiano deserves it. This year he’s broken record after record,” said the 79-year-old as quoted by Marca.

France Football has included Ronaldo in its 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d’Or alongside Messi, Robert Lewandowski, Karim Benzema, Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Romelu Lukaku, and so on.

The French outlet will reveal the winner on November 29 in a gala event at the Chatelet Theatre in Paris.
