Rio Ferdinand has described the ultimate ‘big-game player’ that can Chelsea to ‘the next level’.
Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos is the man Rio Ferdinand would sign to take Chelsea to another level.
The Manchester United legend believes Thomas Tuchel needs a ‘top center-half’ to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title next season, and he reckons Marquinhos fits the bill.
Despite keeping 18 clean sheets and conceding just 11 goals in 25 games under their new manager, Chelsea are reportedly searching for a new central defender.
While Thiago Silva is expected to stay at Stamford Bridge, the 36-year-old isn’t a long-term solution. So, if Ferdinand was in Tuchel’s shoes, he would raid old club PSG to sign Marquinhos.
“If any team is in the market for a center-back, right now, out of the top teams, with the finances, Marquinhos is the only place I’m going,” he said on his Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE YouTube channel.
“Big-game player. Every big game you see that guy play, he turns up.
“Fit as you like, quick, robust, hardened, battle-hardened, understands the big-game environments.
“Top, top player, great attitude, leader, got it all.
“If I’m looking for a center-back of experience who can take me to the next level, he’s the one I’m going for.”
Sevilla defender Jules Kounde and Bayern Munich star Niklas Sule have also been linked to Chelsea ahead of the summer transfer window.
Ferdinand’s former England teammate Peter Crouch, meanwhile, also believes Chelsea need a new central defender.
