(Betfair odds above – FC Barcelona win/Draw/Sevilla win)
All eyes are once again on Camp Nou as FC Barcelona look to continue their solid start under Ronald Koeman. Facing them on Sunday evening will be the high-flying Sevilla. Both sides boast 100% records for the new season and are on good form.
The match will also feature Ivan Rakitic’s return to Catalonia after leaving for Sevilla over the summer. He enjoyed a brilliant six-year spell as a Blaugrana and will, no doubt, be vital for the visitors.
New Barcelona signing Sergino Dest, meanwhile, has been included in the squad and successfully registered under LaLiga to make his debut.
FC Barcelona Form & Stats
Koeman, as previously mentioned, has embarked on a brilliant start to life in the Barcelona dugout by winning both his opening LaLiga games with seven unanswered goals. It’s certainly a promising start, but can he keep it up? The Sevilla game is arguably his biggest test yet.
The 26-time LaLiga champions have notably adapted to Koeman’s methods smoothly and are connecting pretty well. Philippe Coutinho’s return, meanwhile, appears to have eased some of the creative burden off Lionel Messi.
What happened in the summer is in the past, with the squad now fully focused on the season. They’re out for blood after going trophyless last season, thrashing Villarreal 4-0 in their opener before cruising to a 3-0 win over Celta Vigo in their second match. Unless Sevilla are in top form, a similar fate may await them.
Victory for Barcelona on Sunday evening will also pile the pressure on Real Madrid, who have played one more game than the Catalan club.
Key Team Stats
- Over 2.5 goals in three of their last four home league games.
- Won 10 of their last 12 home league games (D1 L1).
- Scored seven goals and kept two clean sheets in first two games this season.
Sevilla Form & Stats
Beating Barcelona at Camp Nou is a tough ask for any team, even if it’s the reigning Europa League champions Sevilla. They boast maximum points, so far, but the real challenge lies on Sunday evening.
Julen Lopetegui’s side began their 2020/21 LaLiga campaign with a solid 3-1 win away to Cadiz. The Andalusian club later grabbed a 1-0 win over Levante to make it back-to-back victories. Not a bad start, right? Although it took a late winner from substitute Youssef En-Nesyri, suggesting they’re not quite as sharp as their opponents.
Nevertheless, those three points could go a long way into helping Sevilla in their LaLiga aspirations. A title challenge isn’t expected, but a second successive top-four finish is a real possibility.
Key Team Stats
- Won three of their last four away league games and seen over 2.5 goals.
- BBTS in five of their last seven away league games.
- Haven’t beaten Barcelona in the league since October 2015 (P9 D2 L7).
