Ahead of the crucial match against Bayern Munich, FC Barcelona just suffered a major injury blow before the Champions League begins.
FC Barcelona needed all their players ahead of the UEFA Champions League debut against Bayern Munich. They already had some serious problems with the exits of stars such as Leo Messi and Antoine Griezmann. In the front, they had players like Martin Braithwaite or Luuk De Jong to replace them. The Danish striker just gave FC Barcelona one more reason to worry about their performance in the UEFA Champions League. After getting a serious knock on his knee, Braithwaite needed to undergo some medical tests.
Initially, the doctors decided to take a soft treatment approach but the plan didn’t work. Further tests confirmed that his femoropatellar injury is forcing the doctors to push for immediate surgery. In the coming days, Braithwaite will go under the knife and he will stay out of activity for months. The options Barcelona is trying to find go through the inclusion of Collado to the first squad. When the season started, the youngster didn’t have a spot in the squad but this opens a new opportunity for him.
Ronald Koeman’s options against Bayern Munich.
With the Collado option still in the works, FC Barcelona only has three players on the attack as real options against Bayern Munich. Memphis, De Jong, and Demir are the only available players for this match. Through their official website, this is how FC Barcelona reported on Martin Braithwaite’s injury: “The first team player Martin Braithwaite has a femoropatellar injury in his left knee which has not responded to conservative treatment.
“The Danish striker will undergo surgery in the coming days. The Club will publish a new injury update when the process has taken place. The Danish international has made three appearances in the league so far this season totalling 226 minutes. On the opening day of the season against Real Sociedad at Camp Nou the striker scored twice and provided an assist for another goal.”
