FC Barcelona needed to get a victory tonight against Getafe if they wanted to remain alive in their fight to win La Liga. They had two matches to play compared to the other two at the top, winning both would place them two points behind Atletico Madrid. However, losing points is not an option for them due to how tight the tournament got. This is the first time in decades that four clubs in Spanish football are fighting to win La Liga. With this in mind, it was Messi’s turn to deliver at Camp Nou.
He started off perfectly with a shot straight to the post, eventually he scored after a beautiful assist from Sergio Busquets. But four minutes after that, the Blaugrana got quite distracted due to an own goal from Clement Lenglet. Then came the gaffe of the year for Getafe as Chakla scored an unbelievable own goal that gave Barcelona the lead again. Leo scored his brace before half-time to give his side some room to breathe.

Even though we thought things could get even easier for Barcelona in the second half, they still made some defensive mistakes. Koeman decided to get Lenglet out after his own goal, Ronald Arujo replaced him and Ilaix came on the pitch for Pique. The Uruguay youngster committed a penalty with 20 minutes left on the clock. But he made amends by scoring his side’s fourth goal through a corner kick sent to the box by Messi.
Near the final minutes of the match, Messi had a chance to get his hat-trick but he preferred Griezmann scored a penalty in his favor. To be fair, Antoine was the one who got knocked down inside the box. After an evening with some drama, Barcelona got an important victory and they remain fighting for La Liga. We saw Ronald Koeman quite flustered during the second half due to these defensive mistakes but his side still got the win at the end.
