Camp Nou Stadium was the place where FC Barcelona got a visit from Deportivo Alaves in a new La Liga match. We got player ratings.
FC Barcelona had to face Alaves at Camp Nou right before the most important game of the season against PSG. Before playing the Champions League, Ronald Koeman wanted to secure a victory that could fill the players with confidence ahead of this match. But more importantly, he wanted Leo Messi to get more into his element ahead of this transcendental night. As expected, the captain was on point with a stellar performance throughout the 90 minutes.
FC Barcelona truly can’t get to this match with more confidence after tonight’s smashing victory against a weak Alaves. The manager decided to give Ilaix Moriba his chance to start and the youngster didn’t disappoint. He set Francisco Trincao up for the first goal of the evening and he was crucial in Messi’s first goal with a simple movement. However, the youngster made a rookie mistake that cost them a goal scored by Rioja at the start of the second half. Koeman made a mistake by taking him out right after this moment, as if he was getting punished for it.
Messi gets revenge against VAR.
Before his first goal, there was a disallowed goal against Barcelona due to VAR. Leo didn’t take this lightly and scored the opener. Right after Alaves scored their goal, he set Trincao up for his double after the goalie denied him in a one-on-one. But the best was yet to come. Messi released a missile to the top corner and put Barcelona leading with a 4-1 result. Near the end of the match, he contributed to the fifth goal with a gorgeous dink pass for Griezmann on Junior Firpo’s goal.
It was a perfect night for Messi and Barcelona right before facing PSG in the Champions League. The French giants could suffer greatly against the Argentine, who doesn’t like them constantly talking about his future. With this result, Barcelona remains fighting for second place against Real Madrid with 46 points. Atletico is still far away with 54 and a pending match to play.
