Today, FC Barcelona faced Elche at Camp Nou for the pending La Liga match they had. A victory would solidify them in third place with 50 points but we all had doubts about the game. Ronald Koeman’s initial starting lineup wasn’t what everyone expected. There’s a Saturday match against Sevilla they need to think about for this weekend. With that in mind, the players who accompanied Messi aren’t the usual starters but the approach still worked.
Martin Braithwaite was one of the most important players of the match with two brilliant assists this evening. The first one came through a wonderful combination with Leo Messi after a Pedri recovery in midfield. After that, we didn’t see further action until the second half of the game at Camp Nou. Barcelona looked comfortable throughout the 90 minutes regardless of Elche’s efforts.

After the break, Lionel Messi needed another 23 minutes to score his brace after an impressive Frenkie de Jong solo effort. The Argentine had an incredible reaction to a precise cross from the left made by Frenkie. With this goal, Leo is the most prolific player of Europe’s major leagues with 13 goals in 2021. He beat Germany’s Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland.
Also, Jordi Alba sneaked in with Barcelona’s third goal after another brilliant assist from Martin Braithwaite, the full-back scored with a wonderful volley. This result puts Barcelona back in the title race with only two points behind Real Madrid and five behind Atletico. Though the Colchoneros still have a pending match left to play. La Liga is more interesting than it was at the start of the season.
