Ansu Fati is set to undergo surgery after injuring his knee and it could reportedly take up to five months before he returns to action.
FC Barcelona recorded a resounding 5-2 victory in their latest La Liga outing on Saturday but their night was spoiled by Ansu Fati’s injury blow.
A harsh tackle inside the box forced the young winger to the ground near the half-hour-mark and he was eventually subbed off at half-time.
It was communicated by Barca after the match that Fati had torn interior meniscus in his left knee.
On Sunday, the club updated that the 18-year old will undergo injury for the same, without revealing the extent of his layoff.
The report on the club’s official website read: “Ansu Fati will undergo surgery on Monday.
“The player will be operated on for the injury to the meniscus in his left knee by doctor Ramon Cugat under the supervision of the club’s medical services.”
A report by Marca claims that, depending on Barca’s response to the injury and its treatment, it could take up to five months before the La Masia graduate fully recovers and returns to action.
Regardless, he is expected to remain unavailable for the La Liga clash against Atletico Madrid after the international break.
Fati will also miss the action with his national side with Spain set to take on the Netherlands in a friendly before playing the Nations League clashes against Switzerland and Germany.
