Ahead of next month’s AFON tournament, Emmanuel Dennis has responded to claims he won’t represent Nigeria.

Watford striker Emmanuel Dennis has denied claims he would not join the Nigerian national team for the Africa Cup of Nations.

A report on Saturday from OwnGoalNigeria said the 24-year-old had informed the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) that he had no interest in linking up with the Super Eagles for AFCON.

But Dennis, who hasn’t played for Nigeria since November 2020, has denied these claims, branding the news as ‘fake’ and ‘totally untrue’.

“This is fake news; very false report. I never said such,” the 24-year-old Watford star told The Guardian.

“The news is a fabrication by the website and it is totally untrue.”

In his interview with The Guardian, the outlet added that Dennis said he would be delighted to get a call-up for next month’s AFCON tournament in Cameroon.

Gernot Rohr’s side begin their campaign with a Group D showdown with Egypt on January 11. They then face Sudan four days later and Guinea-Bissau on January 19.
