As the domestic leagues drew to a close, football fans and punters alike were safe in the knowledge that the action was not yet over.

The postponement of Euro 2020, moved to this summer due to the worldwide spread of the deadly Coronavirus last year, would keep people entertained with events on the pitch. Europe’s top countries will vie for the trophy and the right to be crowned the best side on the continent.

Yet, even in years where there is not a big event being held like the Euros or the World Cup, there never seems to be a dull moment for fans anyway. The minute the season ends, speculation on players and transfers begins. Punters can have a bet at any online casino if they wish to get involved during the transfer window. New destinations are mentioned and amazing pay packages are put on offer to seal the deal for players before other rival clubs swoop in. Football fans are in constant need of updates and new signings can provide a boost of confidence for the coming season.

End of an era

It’s been a strange month for Manchester City, unfortunately, experiencing the highs and lows of football. Finishing the season out on their own at the top of the Premier League table, they managed to reclaim their title from the clutches of formidable rivals Liverpool. Winners in three of the last four seasons, they are starting to assert their dominance in the domestic league and of course Aguero scored in his last home appearance at the Etihad for the club.

However, they will begin next season’s campaign without their prolific striker Sergio Aguero in their ranks. After 10 years at the club, he bowed out, heartbroken after losing the Champions League final to Chelsea in his final performance for the club. The top goalscorer in their history, his increasing years and recurring injuries have led him to decide to move on. Going on a free transfer, he will join up next season with his international teammate and friend, Lionel Messi at Barcelona.

An ongoing saga

Not for the first summer, Jadon Sancho, a very promising 21-year-old winger has been linked with a move back to England. Originally playing for Manchester City, he left as game time and playing opportunities were limited due to the depth and strength of their squad. Moving to Borussia Dortmund in Germany, who are known for developing younger players, his game has improved dramatically.

This has led to some serious efforts to prise him away from the club, with the most interesting club being City’s rivals Manchester United. Transfer bids were made throughout last summer, with Dortmund keen to hold onto one of their prized assets. If a sale is to take place, they seem to be demanding the very best price possible. With such high prices being mentioned, it remains to be seen whether a deal can be struck this summer or not.

Captain of England for sale?

It’s been a while since Tottenham have faced a dilemma like this, if indeed ever. Their notorious chairman Daniel Levy has weathered the storm before, selling fan favourites like Dimitar Berbatov to Manchester United and Gareth Bale to Real Madrid. He is a tough negotiator and always ensures he gets the best price for his club. However, this summer, he is faced with a problem on a whole new level.

Spanning the years since 2004, including his youth career and loan spells to other clubs, Harry Kane has been involved with Tottenham Hotspur. It would be a massive blow if he feels, but at 27 he wishes to win trophies and is not sure if Spurs offer him the best avenue to do so. As he is getting older and remains without much success,  he feels the time may be right to make a move with other top clubs circling.

Stars of the future

It’s a sad realisation, but the time of the most inspirational players of the last generation is coming to an end. In recent times, fans have been spellbound by the skills of both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Arguments rage in pubs and online about which of the two is better with most having a personal favourite. In all honesty, fans have been privileged to see these guys play at the peak of their powers. So as they near the ends of their careers, who is happening up to take over?

The next two superstars that appear set to dominate the sport are Kylian Mbappe of PSG and Erling Braut Haaland of Borussia Dortmund. Rumours surround these two players, with the possibility of offers and moving on becoming a constant talking point. If not this summer, then certainly the next could see bidding wars between clubs as these young strikers could be causing serious problems for defences for years to come. Expect record fees to be mentioned and perhaps paid for either of the pair.

Can I be a transfer genius?

If sitting back and taking in the news over the summer is enough, then prepare to listen to rumour after rumour. Most people wait to see the news confirmed on reputable sites before accepting signings to be true. Some people like to take their interest a little further by having a wager on players’ future destinations, which can be done at any reputable casino online. During the summer it’s possible to bet if a player will leave or stay.

If you feel the player will leave, further options are available as to which club they will end up at. It can add a bit of fun to the situation and certain feelings or opinions can pay off. A selection of other games like blackjack and poker are available if you wish to try your luck outside of football.

Summary

There’s no need for this summer to be boring with tournaments like Copa America and the Euros taking place. Competitions like these are always good as they bring new or lesser-known players into the limelight. Clubs transfer plans may change or revolve around who they may see playing in these competitions. There might be some bargains to be had.

On the other hand, impressive performances may drive up prices. The pandemic has made football clubs a little more cautious in general in splashing out as finances have taken a hammering in recent times. But sometimes, if the right players become available, they just have to take the plunge. As is standard with summertime, expect transfer rumours and speculation galore.
