Ex-Man United forward Andrei Kanchelskis questioned whether Harry Maguire is fit enough to be the captain at the club.

Harry Maguire is too quiet and lacks the necessary steel and aggression to be the Manchester United captain, says Kanchelskis.

The Red Devils have seen a number of great captains in the past and the Englishman doesn’t compare to his predecessors. The likes of Roy Keane and Bryan Robson were well famous for their bullish attitude and ever-shouting demeanor to teammates or opposition players on the pitch.

Maguire impressed initially following his world-record £80m move from Leicester City last summer. So much that he was handed the captain’s armband when Ashley Young left for Inter Milan in January.

However, the 27-year-old has seen those standards dropped with the United defense falling victims on a number of occasions this season.

Solskjaer’s side have conceded 16 goals in their first nine League games already and their latest outing saw them ship in another three against PSG on Wednesday night.

Kanchelskis has once again questioned if Harry Maguire is the right candidate to lead the club on the pitch.

Asked if the center-back is the right man to skipper the team in the long-term, the ex-United midfielder said to American Gambler: “I don’t know.”

“He’s not someone that inspires you like a Roy Keane. He’s a little bit quiet and doesn’t really sparkle.

“You look at how Roy Keane and Bryan Robson used to fight on the pitch, he’s a little bit quiet and needs some determination and be a bit more aggressive.

“This is football; it’s not ballet.”

Bruno Fernandes has inspired since his arrival at the club and could be one candidate in a good frame to be the next United captain.
