The Ivory Coast international was given his marching orders in Crystal Palace’s latest Premier League game.

Former Liverpool and Tottenham striker Peter Crouch has labeled Wilfried Zaha’s red card against Spurs as ‘reckless and stupid’.

Zaha was dismissed during Crystal Palace’s 3-0 defeat to their London rivals on Sunday for two bookable offenses against Spurs defender Davinson Sanchez after only 37 minutes of play.

The second booking, in particular, caught Crouch’s eye for the way the 29-year-old Ivorian shoved Sanchez.

What did Crouch say on Zaha’s challenge?

“It is reckless,” the 40-year-old said on BT Sport.

“You could say he went down a bit easy on the first one but it’s just stupid you just shouldn’t get involved in the first one and the second one.

“I just think he’s the type of player who wants to be involved in these types of confrontations. I don’t know if you remember the game at White Hart Lane, he got involved with [Japhet] Tanganga and from then on he played better and raised his game.

“He needs that kind of fire but he’s just gone too far and steps over the line on this occasion.”

Harry Kane, Lucas Moura, and Son Heung-min were on target to hand Spurs all three points against Palace.

The Eagles, who were without manager Patrick Vieira due to COVID-19, have slipped down to 12th-place in the Premier League. They return to action on Wednesday at home to Norwich City.

Assistant Osian Roberts will likely deputize for Vieira again for the match, while Zaha will serve a suspension.
