At 24, Kai Havertz still has plenty of potential to unlock and Arsenal could be the right place for him to do it.
Kai Havertz, Arsenal’s newest signing, has been tipped to become one of the greatest players of his generation by former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin.
Havertz pulled the curtain on a three-season stint at Chelsea this summer. The German traded the Blues for London rivals Arsenal in a €70 million deal. He is one of nine players to leave Stamford Bridge permanently, and the one that ‘hurts the most’ for Nevin.
“I think Havertz could still be one of the greatest players of his generation,” the former Chelsea winger told OLBG.
“He was playing at center-forward at Chelsea and that is not his strongest position. Playing there really took away the strongest parts of his game.
“Arsenal have sealed an absolute cracker of a deal with Havertz. I’m really confident that Mikel Arteta will be able to get the best out of him as well.”
Havertz joined Chelsea in September 2020 from Bayer Leverkusen for a club-record €80 million fee. The attacker made 139 appearances in all competitions. He managed 32 goals and 15 assists. His most famous moment was scoring the winner in the 2021 Champions League final against Manchester City.
The 24-year-old has now joined an Arsenal side that finished as Premier League runners-up last season. The Gunners are back in the Champions League for the first time since 2017 for the upcoming campaign.
